Dear all,
I wish to inform you that there will be a Public Declaration of the abandonment of FGM/C in Izzi Clan, which comprises of 3 LGAs (Abakaliki,Ebonyi and Izzi) in Ebonyi State.
This event is the outcome of months of consensus-building meetings that began with the rescue of the 3 girls that escaped from Igbeagu Community, Izzi LGA in January 2017 to avoid FGM/C. This process leading to this public declaration was led by the Child Protection Network (CPN) in Ebonyi State, with support from UNICEF.
This event, which is the first in Nigeria, will take place on Monday, 19th June 2017 at Izzi Nnodo Cultural Centre, Amegu, Abakaliki LGA, Ebonyi State, by 10am.
The event is organised by the Izzi Clan Traditional Rulers Council, with support from UNICEF. They have invited the general public and key stakeholder’s (UNICEF, UNFPA, USAID & FMOH) to witness the event, which will be chaired by Her Excellency, Chief Mrs Rachel Umahi Nweze, wife of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State.
